Gary has Apserger`s Syndrome and became obsessed with the idea that the US was hiding alien technology that would produce limitless amounts free energy.

While Gary McKinnon is undoubtedly a fragile individual and should be treated with the utmost sensitivity,  he should still face trial. Hacking is not a victimless crime and costs society millions in lost time, money and equipment.
