There are a number of directory websites that are regional, industry or professional that you should try to get an entry as part of your linking strategy – see linking.
One very important global website directory that you should always try to get an entry is the Open Directory Project (ODP) - http://www.dmoz.org/. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of it, however you may have used it indirectly as Google uses the content for its web directory: http://directory.google.com/
